One of the sweetest things we see these days is the kids genuinely just loving playing with each other. Cameron is still so little, but she gets it. When we chase Dylan around the kitchen or vice-versa, she’s just laughing and squealing and kicking her little legs in utter excitement! When we pick him up from preschool, her face just lights up (and, again, she starts kicking excitedly) and she starts trying to talk. Dylan’s first instinct is to always touch her hand to greet her and, once in the car, he reaches out to hold her hand all of the time. She cranes her neck so she can see him and he yammers away and makes her laugh.

A lot of times when we’re at home, Dylan will also just get down on the ground–on his belly, too–and just hang out with her. He’ll try reading her stories and he’ll hand her toys. He even tells us, “I want to play with Cameron.”

As far as we’re concerned, she’s growing way too quickly, but at the same time, we’re eager for them to be able to really play together. We can tell they’ll be good buddies.

I just wanted to include this photo because it has a great shot of Cameron’s gums! I’m not sure if teeth are coming up any time soon–sometimes I feel like they must be coming. She’s chewing on everything and drooling up a storm. Oh, and she’s talking a lot! She talks a lot around her teething objects. I think she’ll be a lot like her big bro–lots of chattering! Can we wait? Hmmm….

I’d just changed this li’l charmer and gotten her dressed in preparation for getting to work. She just loves sitting up — at this point, she can do more full-body push-ups than I can, but she’d much rather sit up and play than lay on her belly! She still tips over if she gets too excited, though; the boppy was the perfect solution.

fractured elbow. =(
fractured elbow. =(
Originally uploaded by coffywoman.

Well, we started the week off well enough — Tom was on furlough and joined us for Dylan’s gymnastics session on Monday morning. Afterwards, I went to work and Tom took the kids to the park! And, whaddaya know? Poor little Dylan teetered on a playground structure platform and toppled backwards into the sand. According to Tom, the fall was only about 2-ish feet, but Dylan landed square on his butt and he extended his arm to catch himself (as he’ll tell you himself!) and that was enough to do some damage!

Tom took him to Urgent Care, but Dylan passed all of the range-of-motion tests so they sent them home. But, the next morning, Dylan was pretty sore and he couldn’t move without crying out and wincing, so we decided to take him back for some x-rays.

It was also Cameron’s 4-month appointment with the doctor (slightly delayed, but on-track for her vaccinations), so I took her in while Tom was with Dylan. Cameron got her vaccinations and a glowing report — 95th percentile for weight, 90th for height, and (wow) 75th for head circumference!! This little girl is so sweet and is growing increasingly inquisitive. She’s grabbing for everything in sight — today, she even played with Wedgits with Dylan — and she continues to have a pretty strong interest in solids. Luckily, we have nothing to worry about with our dear little girl!

Cameron was done with the doctor before Dylan was (and even though she wailed when she got her two shots in her thighs and she tried to spit out the oral vaccine, a little nursing set her right)….

When we got to Dylan’s exam room, I discovered (because, of course, Tom was already there), his elbow was fractured! So, here he is with his splint and sling!

He has been a trooper throughout this whole thing. After the doctor’s office, he still wanted to go to school and the teachers reported he did great! He needed a lot of help playing with things and he complained about the splint being “so confusing,” but overall, he did well!

Back at home, he was still having trouble putting his GeoTrax together so he good-naturedly told me his “splint was soooo annoyin’!” We’re happy he’s not in great pain anymore. Next week, we go to Orthopedics to see if he needs a cast. Also, we’re, of course, very thrilled with our Pink Princess, who’s as healthy and as jolly as can be! Watching her play now just elicits endless smiles!!

It’s been so busy, I haven’t had time to update Cameron’s weekly status! In between now and the last post (now nearly 3 weeks ago), a lot has happened — a holiday celebration with Heather and her family, Christmas with my family, our trip to LA, and New Year’s!

But first, Cameron’s update. She’s now rolling both from tummy to back and from back to tummy. She is really getting interested in food and drink that we’re putting to our mouths. She’ll reach for it (not always good when I’ve got a hot cup of Teeccino in-hand!) and keep trying to grab for it! Nonetheless, we’re waiting until the 6-month mark to start her on solids.

While we were in LA, Tom did an “informal” weigh-in and pegged her at about 16 pounds! We’re having a tougher time getting the cloth diapers to go around her waist and she’s clearly outgrown the size 2 disposable diapers she sometimes wears! She’s growing fast and is as remarkable as ever….

Cameron is 18 weeks and doing swimmingly! For the past few days, she’s just napped for a solid 3 hours while I’ve been putzing around at work. I still marvel at how easy she makes it for me! And now she’s beginning to laugh when I fake hiccup with her or put kisses on her little kili kilis (underarms)! She’s also beginning to “play” with Dylan more. He’ll get in her face and make some loud monstrous sound and she’ll start smiling. She’s now reaching for him, holding his hand and touching his face. Clothes sized for 6-month olds fit her perfectly while the 3-6month old size is now getting too snug! She’s growing crazy fast (and, yet, I’m so happy I can take her to work with me–she’s still so wee, I’m still reluctant to be apart from her for too long!)…!

On Thanksgiving Day, Cameron was at 15 weeks 1 day! She’s now squealing with joy when you do raspberries on her belly or give her belly kisses. She’s having a tougher time napping in the mornings, but she’s still getting in a good multi-hour nap in the afternoon (usually no longer than 2.5-3 hours).

She’s gotten so big, she’s already outgrown her Halloween outfits!

This week, we’re planning on testing out bottles with her as I prepare to return to work on December 2nd (and I continue to wonder how it can be that professionals proclaim the first 3 years of life to be the most important and yet there is little social support to help parents stay with their children until then–yes, I’m sad about returning to work)….

By the way, if you’re wondering what happened to the 14-week post, dear Cameron was 14 weeks old when we took our excursion to the California Academy of Sciences.

This picture was taken nearly two weeks ago, but I’m woefully behind on posts! As you can see, even though she’s growing and is already so big, her foot is still no bigger than a glue stick! See how well she’s sitting up all propped up on the couch?? We can now pull her up into a sitting position just by her little arms and hands.

It’s been a bit challenging to post on Cameron’s actual week markers since we’re usually out and about all together and Dylan (seriously) talks non-stop from the moment he wakes up until the moment he sacks out!

These days, we are all usually up by 7:30am. More accurately, Cameron has a fussy-ish, gassy period between 4-6am, so both of us are not really sleeping well during this time, but the guys join us and we all fully awake by 7:30am! Then, poor little gal is sleeping a bit more lightly these days, awaking more often to little sounds around her…or big sounds made by big bro! She’s still getting in at least one multi-hour nap–about 3 hours–during the day, but this is usually after lunch when she’s just exhausted by constantly being awakened in the morning! If it’s not noise waking her up, it’s the constant getting in and out of the car. It seems as soon as she’s settled, either on me or in the car seat, it’s time to go! Still, she is a remarkably mellow baby and is still giving us a lot of smiles! Tuesdays and Thursdays, when Dylan is in school, are definitely her best sleep days. She’s able to get in 2 nice 50-minute naps, walking to and from downtown for baby lap time and she usually remains asleep for another hour or so once we get home (nice for getting a few chores done around the house!).

She’s “graduated” to using the Ergo baby carrier and we’ve also started being able to pull her up into a sitting position by her hands while she holds her own head up. She’s turning more onto her side, too, so perhaps rolling over is in her near future!
