getting the "full outfit" effect
getting the "full outfit" effect

Here is Cameron wearing a nice outfit Auntie Cindy got for her. Size? 12 months. Yep, that’s right. We’d blame the need for extra clothing space on the big, bulky cloth diaper but, as you can see, her shirt fits just fine!

Our strong little gal had coconut-milk based mango ice cream for the first time this past week, too…and she loved it!

It’s been really fun and exciting to feed her new foods–building up her system so she can eat the same things we do. Mango ice cream was one of those “food goals” we had for her, thinking it would be awesome for her to join us when we make that special treat (she’s also been able to share mango with sticky rice with us!)! We’re eyeballing lentils and Thai green curry ingredients next (at least I am!). Today, Dylan was snacking on grapes and (as always these days), I noticed Cameron looking very interested in what he was eating. I looked grapes up in our baby food book and found that she, too, could have grapes (not whole, of course, but quartered)! And tonight for dinner, both kids had some tofu cubes. It might just be me, but I really think both kids enjoy eating together and, for me, the food prep is getting more fun as Cameron is able to share more and more with us….

we are uncertain about bananas!

bananas day 1.5
bananas day 1.5
Originally uploaded by coffywoman.

Last week, Cameron started bananas, but owing to the potential tummy virus, we gave her a couple of days break. Then, we decided to hold off for another day (Sunday) when we took the kids to see Cirque du Soleil’s Ovo show–we didn’t want poor Cameron (or us, for that matter!) to be puke-covered while out and about!! But, today, we resumed the food trial.

Overall volume of food is still pretty darn low. Today, I tried giving her just a few spoonfuls. The jury is still out on whether she likes it!!

Regardless of the actual taste experience, Cameron clearly enjoys having her own food “gear!” In fact, one of the reasons we decided to try bananas again this morning was because she was looking a little put-out while Dylan, Tom and I were enjoying our own breakfasts of solids!! As you can see, she perked up as soon as she had her own little set-up. Such a sweet girl…!

"more!" (I think)
"more!" (I think)
Originally uploaded by coffywoman.

Cameron started off strong with the solids. She seemed to really like the rice cereal…and she especially likes handling her own little cup even if she can’t get anything out of it yet!

This picture was taken on Day 4 of rice cereal. She looks happy, but later that evening, she puked up a storm. And then the next night, several hours after eating banana for the first time, she puked again! It seemed strange that she’d be allergic to foods as innocuous as rice cereal and banana, so we called the doc. We were told that it was probably a tummy virus, so rather than agitate her poor little digestive system, we opted to give her a break! We will try resuming solids tomorrow….

So, with the solids thing…we’ve also done away with the high chair figuring these cute little portable boosters with trays would work just fine. When Dylan was young, we kept one at home and kept the other one in the car. Not sure if we’ll be able to do that again with Cameron since, as you can see, Dylan wants to be in one too now, despite the fact that his legs are really far too long for the tray to fit comfortably on top (he can’t bend his legs!) and he really began to despise the thing quite a while ago!

We don’t normally feed Cameron on the floor like this, by the way. Dylan wanted to sit right.next.to.Cameron and this was the easiest and most agreeable way to do it!! They both enjoyed dining together…!

Day 77: picnic lunch in the backyard

This picture was taken on one of those days when Dylan refused to change out of his pajamas. Note that, prior to bedtime, he refuses to get into them!

That day’s lunch included seitan, tofu cubes, strawberries and avocado. But it seems Dylan is tepid on the ‘cado these days…!

Dylan likes miso soup, buckwheat pancakes, beans and steamed milk.

Tonight, he has gas.

Also, he just started an 8-week session of toddler gymnastics. He was so excited to be there, he could barely wait for me to finish signing waivers, enrollment papers, etc.!

He’s very cute. And, he has a couple of canines coming in.

Back Log: Good gracious! At this time last year, Dylan’s very first teeth were just coming in!

Our little guy is definitely getting bigger! Last night while we were reading some books, he surprised us by signing “pig,” “cow” and maybe even “bunny”!! He has also been signing “music”, and this morning at Mothersong, one of the moms thought he signed “sleep”. I’ll try to take video clips of his signs. It’s really adorable to see the baby versions of what we’re doing!

Anyway, he’s definitely more communicative now. Not only is he building his signing vocabulary, he also points things out a lot more and tries to imitate sounds we make (mostly animal sounds, but still…!).

For the past 3 weeks or so, he’s also been hard at work trying to learn how to eat with utensils — he’s reasonably good at getting spoons into his mouth, but getting food onto the spoon or his baby fork are still proving to be challenging. And, he’s doing a lot of “vacuuming” and self-grooming (he loves to try combing/brushing his hair after bath time).

The other night, he watched Tom use a stud finder (just a powerful magnet encased in plastic), then he took a turn moving it along the wall until the magnet stuck to a nail.

Dylan is also really eager to take off on his own these days and even goes so far as to push our hands away when we try to walk with him!

Time is flying.

Dylan’s first jamba juice!
Originally uploaded by coffywoman.

Took a break from work to go get some smoothies, and Dylan was expressing great interest in having some of mine (he loves drinking from a straw!). He isn’t eating strawberries yet, but the nice people at Jamba Juice made a custom-order fruit smoothie for him with just mango, peach and banana! Dylan loved it!

the sweet taste of success

The full clip of Dylan trying to eat an Oatio is really close to 2 minutes — he’s more adept at it now, but he still has to be pretty persistent!

Oh, O’s!

first time eating Oatios
Originally uploaded by coffywoman.

At first, he couldn’t get them into his mouth. Then, he didn’t know what to do with them. And, then he didn’t know what to make of the taste!

Dylan spat out the Oatios as soon as he got a taste of ‘em, but his curiosity is getting the better of him!

He insists on figuring out the best way to get them into his little piehole, so he’s really been gobbling them up!

Christmas in the Park

12/23/06 – Dylan wakes up…
Originally uploaded by coffywoman.

We went to Christmas in the Park with the family on Friday night.

Dylan fell asleep in the car on the way over. Poor little guy has not been able to keep abreast of his zzzz’s these past few days! Bananas and rice cereal finally started backing up in his system and he’s been waking up in the middle of the night with thunderous gas!

We started him on pears 4 days ago, though, and finally saw some diaper action last night…whoa.

Anyway, I digress! After a quickie catnap of about 30 minutes, Dylan woke up! So, here he is with his daddy, wondering where the heck he is…

Before we headed out to the park, though, we had some appetizers at mom’s and Dylan got a chance to play with Jason and hang out with his Auntie Christina before she left for work.

A few more photos are in the usual place…
