In honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday, we got to make Cat in the Hat hats at story time (and we heard a story). I love how Dylan gets enthused by events and themes like this. We had to check out a Seuss book and we’re back to reading “The Lorax” nearly nightly…and, of course, I had to take his picture in his cute little hat…!

Back Log: At this time, three(!!!) years ago, Dylan was crawling around listening to Mothersong. My, how time is flying.

Today was the last day of pre-schooler story time for 2009. They ended it with a sweet little Cookie Lighthouse-decorating party. Dylan thoroughly enjoyed participating (and he was so polite!) and, shocker, he didn’t want to eat a single cookie or piece of candy! Doesn’t the Lighthouse look great???

picnic at home: pb&j sandwich, apples with peanut butter, and pistachios

Well, I’ve given up on trying to stay downtown between the end of Dylan’s story time and the beginning of the Farmer’s Market! The past couple of weeks, Dylan has been downright adamant about not going and since I’m way more enthusiastic about summer produce anyway, I’ve just taken us all home at his request!

We still had to eat lunch, though, so to make it “more exciting,” we had a picnic lunch at home. Yep, we just spread out the blanket and slapped our plates down and ate!

Cameron is alert for about 2 hours at a time now, so it was actually super nice to be able to picnic at home. While we ate, she “played” on her playmat! All were content!

The storm has passed and today, Dylan got another hair cut. When he was finished, we went to The Ugly Mug for steamed soy milk and vegan scones. The yumminess of the scone as well as the presence of their fish tank inspired him to declare, “I love this place!” Then, we went to story time where we listened to bug-themed stories and made a “caterpillar” necklace. Just like last week, Dylan gave his daddy the project he made!!

We were in the midst of the strongest October storm to hit the Bay Area since 1962 when I took this picture of Cameron at baby lap time with my cameraphone. Cameron was alert during the entire story time — and the librarian noticed and commented on how alert she was!

It was a leave day for Tom, so he joined us! After lap time, I tucked Cameron into the trusty Peanut Shell and she slept while Tom and I enjoyed lunch at Walnut Avenue Cafe and did a little shopping downtown. This was not trivial; the wind was howling and whipping rain into us — it even inverted our big ol’ golf umbrella! We were both impressed that she remained so calm and at peace!

Since we had no power back at home, we ended up not returning to our house until Dylan’s bed time. After picking Dylan up, we headed out for dinner at Fresh Choice (encountered some coworkers as well as Heather, Assaf, et. al!) and all during dinner, she slept! She’s amazing….

Dylan made an alligator during last week’s story time and he gave it to his daddy! Tom brought it to work where it’s “keeping [his] desk safe from pigs on the wing”. Cryptic message but cute project!

We continue to be amazed at just how quickly time is zipping past. Cameron, at 6 weeks, is now alert for stretches of about 20-30 minutes and she’s now more responsive to us, often delighting us with smiles. The poor thing still has bad acne or eczema…I’m not sure which, but whatever it is, these past few days, it’s gotten a little better after applying some breastmilk (breastmilk has all sorts of anti-bacterial and moisturizing properties and was recommended for her clogged tear ducts as well as her cheeks)! She has been remarkably good about not pawing at her face (thank goodness) and she still seems fairly mellow about it — I’m not hearing a whole lot of crying because of it!

Wednesday was also pre-school story time at the library. We went to the park with Cora and Anela to burn off some energy before sitting down for songs and stories. Afterwards, we went to Jamba Juice and headed to the fountain in the courtyard near my work to have our lunch (PB&J sandwiches, cashews, an apple and, of course, Jamba Juice). Dylan discovered Birch trees and their neat-o paper-like bark and I was happy to see him do a whole lot of running around the fountain, but alas, all of this activity was not enough to tucker him out — another no siesta day for us! At least, when day is done, we sleep deeply…!

Back Log: At this time last year, Dylan was working on two molars, the last of his full set of baby teeth, and he participated in his first running event!
