waiting in line for the pinata

This past weekend, Dylan was invited to two birthday parties. Birthday party #1 was Julie’s celebration and it involved a pinata…Unfortunately, the guys in the back of the line (Dylan included!) didn’t get a chance to whack at it because it got busted open before their turn came up! No worries, though, the candy that came out was the important part!

Dylan exhibited remarkable constraint. He left the pack early and his bag only had 4 dum dums, a little thing of bubbles and 1 starburst!

Cameron had fun at the party, too. She got to see her buddy Kaden whom we haven’t seen in a while. We’ve been taking Music Together classes with him, but since the new job started, we’ve missed practically every session (although Tom has been able to take the kids a couple of times).

Birthday Party #2 was a blast. It was for a school buddy (Ava) and lots of other school buddies (Tanner, Jack B., Riley, Mia) were there as well. There was a bounce house, a petting zoo with bunnies and mini goats, and a face painter with awesome skills!

Dylan didn’t really feed or pet the goats much and he showed zero interest in the chickens, but he did hold a bunny in a basket for a few minutes before popping back into the bounce house.

Dylan also had a great time running through sprinklers with Tanner. They got drenched, so stripping down was “necessary.”

I spent most of my time trying to keep Cameron from eating dirt! Luckily, she found other diversions….

today's strawberry haul...

You’d think that after all of that partying, the kids would be tuckered out at the end of the day (we didn’t get home until after 5pm!!)! But, Dylan was still pretty awake and Cameron had that little snooze on the way home, so we hung out outside and inflated the bounce house in our backyard; we grilled up some bocas and prepped a salad with farm share veggies and candied pecans and ate dinner outside after checking up on the garden.

We got a pretty sweet haul of strawberries (of which I only got one to eat!) and we’ve got some nice clusters of nectarines on our tree. There are also clusters of braeburns and fujis (??) on the apple tree and a single pear and a single apricot on the other trees! Still waiting on tomatoes, snap peas and cherry tomatoes.

All in all, it’s been a great weekend….

Lola bought flip flops for Cameron a couple of weeks ago (along with this cute dress she’s wearing). She usually yanks them off immediately, but I managed to distract her with a rice cake, long enough to take the picture!

Here’s some of that special french toast Dylan and I prepped for Father’s Day….Dylan prepared this plate of french toast all by himself! He did a great job of making it look super yummy…

And, here’s that special daddy. He does so much work for all of us everyday–preps meals of all sorts, including kiddie lunches, tidies up at night and shuttles us around. We’re very lucky!

We tried to get a group shot of the daddies and kids, but it was tough! Here is just one sample. Also, more pictures are on flickr.

Finally, here are some pictures of Cameron at her 10-month mark (which passed two weeks ago already!)! It was a very hot Saturday, so we spent a lot of time out in the backyard trying to keep cool!

We filled up the water table and let the kids play…Cameron loved splashing around and, following her big brother’s lead, she made some “soup” out of herbs we trimmed.

These days, she is definitely not enamored of the car seat … and she is also quite vocal when objects of interest are taken away from her (by us or by Dylan) — we continue to encourage her to sign instead of scream! We’re also already beginning to see the kids vying for the same toy! It’s been a tough balancing act for us–we’re trying not to always come down on Dylan, but obviously, he’s currently the only one who fully gets what we’re saying….Ahh, parenthood!

I was at Google I/0 bright and early the day of Dylan’s birthday. So, all I could do was leave him a little note and a small present (Chutes and Ladders) on the kitchen table. Tom had to work also, so after spending some of the AM with him, he took both kids to Lola’s house for the day (instead of taking Dylan to school). There, Dylan got a special bday surprise (a lot of Spiderman stuff, some Hot Wheels and Pip Squeak markers and Spidey balloons!) and, afterwards, Tom and the kids picked me up in SF and we headed to Millennium for Dylan’s bday dinner.

The best part of dinner, of course, was the dessert. He got the ol’ standby: Chocolate Almond Midnight! And, we got a sweet bday picture of him without the Spiderman face paint!!

Here’s the gang waiting for Dylan’s swim lesson to start. It’s not the best picture of Cameron, but I have to share because Dylan’s got his arm around her and he’s all picture-posed smiles….

Cameron, by the way, was incredibly patient. I think she loved watching all the kids splash and play…I’ll bet she’s eager to join them!

Is this the face of someone who would have a gigantic blow-out at daycare, sullying the clothes of her “teachers” and forcing them to bathe her while she was there??? Yep, apparently so…! And, who knew her hair could actually stay down like that??

So, what’s this girl been eating, you might ask? First it was rice cereal, followed by bananas, peas, avocado, butternut squash, oatmeal cereal, applesauce, pears, sweet potatoes, mango, carrots, and now broccoli. We are enjoying introducing her to new foods and I’m eagerly awaiting giving her coconut next. Once she’s had coconut (which a doctor/friend has reassured us is not allergenic and should not be a problem), she can start having stuff like mango with sticky rice, coconut ice creams, and coconut water/juice–just in time for summer!

Back Log: At this time 3 (three?!?) years ago, Dylan had his first-ever Jamba Juice from a straw–peaches, mango, and banana–and thus began a lifelong (so far) love of smoothies…!

Just a shot of little Cameron’s (so far still) toothless smile. We’re pretty happy she likes this thing. She can spend a lot of time in it. We’re able to do a little cooking here and there, a little cleaning, a little this, a little that. It’s nice. And, Cameron gets a little “extracise” (as Dylan would say!).
