picking strawberries!

Took the day off from work to unpack camping gear and to go strawberry picking with the kids’ preschool. It was a very small group — just four kids today — with none of Dylan’s or Cameron’s usual buddies, but the kids still had fun.

Cameron got off to a slow start, but once she got comfy with the whole process, her ripe-strawberry-picking instincts kicked right in and she filled her little bucket even faster than Dylan did!

I was surprised the kids didn’t sample more while they were picking away, but they did eventually remember they were in amongst a field of one of their favorite fruits, so some sampling was done before the trip was through!!

The trip was surprisingly quick, but we had so much camping gear to put away and clean up, etc., that Tom and I were happy the excursion didn’t drag on. Poor Cameron, though, had a very tough time with the drop-off. I think she got so used to spending lots of time with us (not even a day with Lola to signal the start of a new week!) and she probably thought that today was another mommy-daddy day since we were both there for the strawberry picking!

In any case, we did find out she later napped; I don’t know how those gals do it! And, Tom and I were able to do a fair amount of clean-up and laundry, meet up with the landscapers (backyard project started yesterday!!!!), and build Dylan’s bunk bed!

Dylan is so excited about the new bunk bed, he’s sleeping in it tonight! Of course, the transition isn’t going as smoothly as we’d hoped–he still wanted me to stay in there with him and he’s expecting to see me in the bottom bunk in the morning; Cameron also complained that she didn’t like her “new bed” (the bottom bunk/a.k.a. my old futon from my college days!).

Other new things this week include Cameron now saying, “that’s my dad…Tom” and she is now officially completely weaned. What a tough process that was…and, as always, it’s bittersweet. I was definitely ready to stop (and have been for several months!), but I do miss those snuggly moments…especially tonight when I didn’t even get a chance to put her to sleep because I had to stay with Dylan and she wanted zippo to do with the “new bed!”

These kids, they are a-growing….
