We went to a “Fancy Nancy” bday celebration for Julie this past Sunday. Everyone was supposed to get all dressed up, so standard get-ups were dad’s in shorts, short-shirt sleeves and ties, and moms were in dresses and heavily accessorized!
We met some resistance with the theme….Dylan picked out his Hawaii shirt and Cameron wanted to wear jeans! Eh. The kids looked adorable anyway!
Besides that, they were down in the grass and sand a lot!!
Dylan was also feeling pretty shy that day–even though we’ve known many of these kids since they were born, we don’t see them very often, so Dylan isn’t all that familiar with them. He spent most of his time with just us.
When it came time for the pinata, the poor guy was shoved back by another kid and the throng around the busted pinata was just too big for him to be comfy around, so despite encouragement, he retreated to our side.
We are so happy he’s such a gentle soul–he never pushes back and he, honestly, doesn’t have an aggressive bone in his body–but it was sort of sad to see him edged out like that and to see him be so sad that he got pushed out of the way.
So after the party, we headed for Neary Lagoon to see the goats doing their natural lawn-mowing thing!
Oh, we also saw some sweet baby ducks and lots of koi!
Dylan wanted to read all of the informational signs and had lots of questions and comments on what we were seeing. In the meantime, Cameron got a short little nap in.
After a late lunch at Saturn, we all headed out on the trails behind the house with our bug-catching gear. We caught a lovely caterpillar which we observed for a little while (learned that they breathe through holes in their sides and they don’t have good eyesight!) before we set the caterpillar back outside.
It was definitely awesome to see the Lagoon again–Tom and I both used to live near there before we got married. We showed Dylan Tom’s old apartment and my old condo and told him a few stories about those “good ol’ days.” The afternoon activities also cheered Dylan up.
