I’ve got a pretty sweet deal with Tom being on paternity leave 4 days a week. I work 1 full day on Mondays and get Wednesdays off while he goes into the office.
We’re fast approaching the very end of summer vacation, so this past Wednesday, I finally took the kids tidepooling, something I’d been planning but failing to do all summer.
We saw anemones, barnacles, tons of sea snails and some mussels…alas, no sea stars that day! But I was erring on the side of caution and staying a bit far back on the rocks with the kids….
Since we were there over lunch, we ate there–yummy PB and J sandwiches made with the strawberry jam we made a few weeks ago.
The kids had a good time. It was a little on the chilly side, but they chased some birds away from our lunch and all around the beach and kept warm.
We are so lucky to live in such a beautiful place!
We ended our outing with a geocache success! Straight from the geocache logbook: “After a fine time tidepooling and lunching at Natural Bridges with the kids, we decided (or rather, as the sole parent present, I made the executive decision) that it might be fun to try to find a geocache with a trackable. The kids loved running amok along the trails there (the ones further from the cliffs) while I pinpointed the location. Once we arrived at the coordinates, I called them over to assist in combing our surroundings for the cache. Score!!
This was our first geocache find which included a trackable. And it was an awesome one for the kids to have found [a T-Rex light]! Luckily, we remembered to bring a few fun things to trade as well.”
It was such a fun day!. I’m so glad I was able to punctuate my work week with a day like this (oh, I almost forgot! We went to art class afterwards!). Next week, Dylan starts school, so this was really my final summer hurrah with all 3 kids….
