two’s

Ellie turned 2 and we joined her for a wonderful celebration at a park in Sunnyvale. Dylan got all but 20 minutes of napping in (en route to the party) but, of course, he perked up as soon as he saw bubbles, balloons, a pinata, a wagon, and Ellie!

He got especially cheerful when he got to pick which cake he could eat (Mark and Yu-Chen were so nice to serve a vegan spread and vegan birthday cakes!)!

Dylan was remarkably good about relinquishing the limelight to Ellie…when we first mentioned “birthday”, he made his shy face and I thought he might be thinking we were going to celebrate his all over again, but he happily watched Ellie blow out her candles.

Now that Dylan is 2, he can readily and accurately identify groupings of 2 things together (2 vacuums, 2 cookies, 2 kids, etc.), and we often count larger collections together, but he surprised me at the park when he counted 11 agapanthas all by himself (after 11, he jumped to 13 and then 16)!
