Well, poor Dylan couldn’t do SuperKids Tri this year, but at the very last minute, Cameron decided she wanted to do it! We were so thrilled and proud of her. She has not been on her balance bike much at all — she’s had very little interest in it and we haven’t pushed it — but, once she committed to doing SuperKids, she practiced all during Dylan’s soccer game on the day before the event!
We’re not sure what finally persuaded her, but she sure was an enthusiastic participant!
I have to hand it to all of the super supportive people who are part of this event. First, when we were registering Cameron at packet pick-up, they let us roll Dylan’s registration over to Cameron since he obviously couldn’t participate. But, they still let Dylan pick up a shirt and grab a wristband so he could pick up race treats afterwards. Then, you see things like this–people just volunteering their time to help out–and it kinda melts your heart!
We saw some good buddies–Owen and Mattias from school, and Kaden, too!

I have to say, Kaden was super impressive; he swam all.by.himself. He was the only 4-year old out there who didn’t have a parent inside the pool with him!
Anyway, here’s the gal finishing swim (she didn’t actually swim this year–although she could have–but, rather, she clung to Tom’s neck and he sidestroked all the way across. Poor guy was quite beat from the effort!!).
Cameron had so little experience with her balance bike, that this leg was a challenge, but I love how she just went for it and gave it her all. And, now, she is definitely more eager to bike (bonus!!)! She is even talking about how next year she might be on a pedal bike!
She loved the run and, look at that form!
Ok. So, seeing poor Dylan so sad was the hardest part. This picture just sums it all up….He was so unhappy and disappointed, he didn’t grab any treats saying he wasn’t a super kid and he shouldn’t get treats because he didn’t finish the race. As a parent, it was a delicate balance of emotions–we certainly didn’t want Dylan’s disappointment to overshadow Cameron’s happy moment; but we didn’t want him to feel neglected either.
We are looking forward to next year’s event…when both big kids will be able to partcipate (knock on wood!).
That last picture nearly killed me! So sad for Dylan, so happy for Cameron. That’s a tough situation for any parent.
He is really looking forward to next year’s tri. I guess that’s an upside! 🙂
