We now have 2 super duper soccer players in our household. They started practice the first week of school and just finished playing their first games of the season this past week!
I thought I might have more free time now that there are 2 kids in school, but um no. With 2 doing after-school activities, it’s just plain busy. Dylan has practice MW and Cameron has practice on Tuesdays! They’ll both play a game on Saturday which means, on some weekends, Tom and I are going to have to split up which also makes me a bit sad as I’ll have to miss one of the kids’ games (if only we could be in 2 places at once!).
The first games were great. Cameron played at 9am against her good buddy Kaden! She just got in there and dribbled and kicked away–she was great! And there were many scores on both sides! This apparently was pretty impressive for this age set.
Cameron’s coach approached us after the game and commended her on her focus and skill–she really did great!
We had to hustle from Cameron’s game to Dylan’s…and we didn’t yet have his uniform so time was super tight. Luckily, we managed to find his small team (only 10 players!) on a vast field covered with several other teams! We barely had time to get him changed before the game started.
Since 9 players are on the field at once, this meant that everyone on Dylan’s team would be playing a LOT! I was worried their energy would flag and they’d get demoralized if lots of goals were scored against them, but they really rallied! I think they ended up losing by 1 goal, but this was remarkable given their team size and the fact that the other team had at least 3 more players than their’s (and so could sub-out and let players rest).
Dylan ran a lot and did 3/4 throw-ins for his team. He was focused and scanned the field before throwing the ball in to the player with the least coverage.
Soccer started early, but it pretty much took up the entire morning! We celebrated their success with lunch at Shun Feng (our favorite Chinese restaurant) and then HAKT came over for dinner and games.
And now for the pictures!
