After Wharf to Wharf, we headed to Harvey West Park to get all those hard-earned Book Bucks that the kids earned from the Summer Reading Program.
Dylan started off strong and managed to plow through most of the How to Train a Dragon series (he got all the way through Book 11! But, I think he missed a couple of the earliest ones)…and this was the first year that we let Cameron earn her’s. She earned a whopping 12/20, which is pretty good for a beginning reader (most of her books were in Spanish)!
Dylan and I were pretty tired from the run, but after the girls got face paint and all of the kids ate, we headed to the playground.
It was a pretty hot day, so Dylan and I took a break from the sun and, boom, found one of the coolest geocaches ever! I’d actually had this one on my list for a couple of years now, but it’s tough to look around when you’ve gotta mind the kids. Now that the kids are a bit bigger and Tom was also around to help watch the girls, we had an opportunity to search! Such a fun find!
The kids initially didn’t want to go. We ended up spending a couple of hours there, so I consider the excursion a wild success! Here’s Chloe with her butterfly face paint.
Cameron is quite the kind big sister. Not only does she look after Chloe, she takes an active interest in what Chloe is doing…and she loves doing her hair!
Cameron went with a turtle…still in under-the-sea-Little-Mermaid mode!
We saw lots of friends there, too–it’s such a great event. I’m looking forward to how Cameron progresses next year. She’s back to really applying herself to reading these days. Very proud of the kids’ hard work!
