Beauty and the Beast!

We were reluctant to sign up for another theater production during the school year, but Chloe really wanted to do a show and, if we let her do it, poor Cameron would feel very sad if she couldn’t do it as well. Plus, since Chloe never made it on stage for “Little Mermaid,” we thought it might actually be helpful to her to have Cameron around for moral support.

We had far less time to prep for this production as compared with “Lion King” (a couple of months versus only maybe 6 weeks??) — time went by very quickly!

Chloe and Cameron were thoroughly enjoying rehearsals — and Chloe was actually wanting to go to more than just her Friday rehearsal, but when show time came, Chloe once again opted out!

It’s all good. She had a great time learning the songs and dances; she made some new friends….And, she did get injured and was very worried (as were we) that costume changes would actually be painful. I was also thinking that they would be very slow and so I probably would only be able to help her while working backstage.

It was a blast to see Cameron having so much fun out there on stage! She has come a long way in feeling more at ease on stage with both her singing and dancing!

This time, I didn’t have to dress the little ones (the hardest job, I think!), so I got to manage traffic to the stage which also meant I had some opportunities to watch from the wings. You can see the joy in Cameron’s face up there!

Chloe almost made it to stage on Saturday (the day that I was working backstage). She changed her mind after we couldn’t immediately find her jazz shoes…

Dylan was involved in the show, too! He did mics as an official Production Assistant. He was universally praised for his ability to remain calm and to calm the little ones and for his ability to focus! He did a great job.

Tech week fell on the same week as my first on-call shift at work (24/7 pager duty). Still, the first few days of on-call were mellow. I was able to watch dress rehearsal (things got crazy half-way through!):

Got to see Chloe rehearse, too!

As always, at the end of the shows, they say very kind words about every child. Cameron was supportive of her fellow cast members. I think I got a video of their words, something to the effect of Cameron always knowing her lines and dances and that she cares a lot about the shows. It’s true!

Dylan wants to do a show, too, so his turn will be this summer….We’ll look forward to seeing him on stage again as well!
