2017 Wharf to Wharf

Cameron and Dylan both registered for the Wharf to Wharf this year, making it Dylan’s third and Cameron’s first year doing the event!! This time, Taliana also registered (also her first time) and she and Dylan had bib numbers assigned to Corral 1 (T) and Elite (Dylan (!), due probably to Dennis registering him) so they decided they would start together. Meanwhile, Cameron and I headed back to Corral 4.

So, once again, the kids ran 6 miles cold (in about 1:27). We did no training at all for this run! Around mile 4.5, Cameron started telling me that she was done and wanted to give up (I told her that when she crossed the finish line, she can remember that she did exactly what she thought she couldn’t). Despite this, she was a total trooper and kept on going, even managing to smile at my feeble attempts at being entertaining.

A local photographer capture this shot of her running through some water (I deftly avoided getting wet!). This was either around mile 2 or 4:

Dylan also struggled through the run. Apparently, he and Taliana got separated very early on (like right after the start!) so he pretty much ran on his own! We finally caught up to him around mile 4, I’d say.

I was delighted to see him! It is hard to muster up motivation when you’re alone, so I was incredibly impressed he’d made it this far! But now, he and Cameron could offer mutual support to one another and I now would know exactly where both of them would be at the end of the race!

It was a tough challenge that both of them tackled. Both of them were definitely beat at the end of it, but they did it!! As of the end of the race, Cameron and Taliana were game for next year…Dylan, not so much. I hope he changes his mind! It’s such a great family tradition!
