Dylan runs a race, plus more Disneyland

Well, this week was obviously a very eventful one what with our trip to LA, but there are so many sweet pictures and moments, I have to break ’em down!

Neither Tom nor I were in a position to run the Disneyland half-marathon this year, but we decided to register Dylan for the kids race. Dylan still thoroughly loves running — and Hankey Mouse — and we thought that combining the two would be a nice way to help him with his big bro transition…the Disneyland portion of our trip to LA was a sort of Congrats on Being a New Big Brother thing…! We splurged and spent a night at the Disneyland Hotel and spent two days at Disneyland.

On our first day there, we had to deal with logistics — room check-in, packet pick-up for the race, ticket pick-up for the park, etc….By the time we’d finished up, it was already 4pm! But, it was blazing hot outside (96F), so getting off to a late start — after it had cooled to 89F — wasn’t so bad.

We rode the monorail, Finding Nemo, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, and Small World; we saw Mickey and we stayed to see the fireworks!

On Day Two, we had to get poor Dylan up at 6am to make the 6:45am start time for the 5K.

The course wound through California Adventureland and Disneyland. Dylan loved seeing the steam trains in the roundhouse and seeing Mickey and Minnie at the finish line!

After we crossed the finish, we made our way over to the kiddie race start lines. This year, Dylan’s event was a 100-yard dash from the top of Main Street to the 5K finish. Tom did a great job getting Dylan ready and making sure he made it all the way to the finish (in the meantime, Cameron stayed asleep on my lap!)! Dylan was so proud of his medals…and he ran such a good race! His arms were pumping, his stride looked good…he was fantastic!

After the race, we checked out of our hotel and returned to the park for more rides. We ended our trip with rides on the steam train (looped twice around the park!), Pirates of the Caribbean, and the Jungle Cruise and a visit to the Elias house (to see the model Santa Fe train — Dylan also loved playing with all of the computers in the kitchen).

It was an incredibly hot and tiring two days, but it was so worth it for all of Dylan’s smiles. He clearly had a good time! And, we have Cameron to thank for being such a stellar newborn. She pretty much just camped out in the Peanut Shell in between nursings.
