Chloe’s 2-year stats and classroom observations

This week was busy what with school “tours” for kindergarten, annual medical check-up for Chloe and field trip for Dylan!

First, we are hoping Cameron will be admitted into the dual immersion program at school and, as part of her enrollment form, we were required to do a classroom observation. It brought tears to my eyes seeing how adorable (and fantastic) it was that these little kids, not even through their first year of school yet, were already listening and speaking complete Spanish. They were singing songs, listening and responding to stories and their teacher’s instructions, as naturally as if they were born speaking the language. It was truly impressive.

There are only 8 slots available for the upcoming school year and there were many parents on our Tuesday “tour,” but I’m going to remain hopeful that she’ll get in….We won’t find out for another couple of months!

Later in the day, I took Chloe to her 2-year appointment. I was surprised to discover we’d missed her 18-month appointment–poor third child!! 🙁

Anyway, she is as healthy as can be, 33″ tall (45th percentile) and 23 lbs. (7th percentile). Yes, she is light, but the doctor is not concerned; she is on her trend line and the doc expressed great satisfaction with her head circumference (18.31″ and 23rd percentile)!

Since we missed her last appointment 6 months ago, she needed to get caught up on some vaccines. Poor Chloe. She was already wary of being there the moment Leti hustled her in (I have to admit, our doctor’s assistant is a bit brusque, loud, and “scary”). Chloe kept grabbing my face in her hands and whispering, “mommy. I want to go home.” I felt so bad that I had to keep telling her we needed to stay to see the doctor. Then, she refused to take off her shirt, still whispering to me that she wanted to go home.

She was more at ease with the doctor, but still hesitant and anxious. Then, she needed those 3 shots! She was quiet, albeit shocked, when the first one went in, a bit more whimpery with the second, and for the third, she just whimpered, “no” before the needle even went in. Then she clung to my neck and buried her head in my shoulder and I was so happy to tell her that we could finally leave!

Luckily, her appointment was in the mid-afternoon, so she didn’t have to go to school afterwards! When we got home and changed her diaper, she noticed her band-aids over her vaccine points and got so aggravated by them, we had to peel them off!

So glad we don’t have to go back for another year!

But on to the other moments. Our little girl sings herself to sleep and tells herself stories–Going on a Bear Hunt, Great Big Stars, Five Little Monkeys…It’s adorable. She’s a great talker, just like Cameron and Dylan! She’s also become quite adept at telling on her older sibs although her accusations devolve into gibberish after she gets out the initial “Dylan did…” or “Cameron did….”

She has adjusted well to the transition into the pre-K area at school and the teachers are impressed with her ability to communicate!

We’re also working on weaning. She will admit that there’s very little (or no) “mommy milk” but still, she “wants to try though” (her words)! I have to admit that there is a big part of me that will miss the snuggles and coziness of it all…she’s growing up.

bday fun with Jada

Saturday was a busy day! Tom went off to work and Chloe, Dylan and I took Cameron to her pre-ballet class. Then after lunch, we went to Cameron’s good buddy Jada’s 5th birthday where Tom met us about half-way through. It was a rompin’ good time for all of the kids. And, instead of presents, Jada’s parents organized an art supply exchange. It was a phenomenal idea! And Dylan selected a 3-pack of make your own itty bitty books of which he’s already writing and illustrating Book 1 (“Candy World”). It was so nice to see Cameron with all of her school buddies–they are really all so sweet and so good to one another and she is so at-home and joyful when she’s with them (especially Jada and Mattias)! We will miss them when she starts Kindergarten, but will enjoy their company while we can!

Cameron started her second session of dance “camp” at IAD this past Friday. She loves the class (and so do I!). She is growing like a weed–already, she’s too tall for the tights I just bought her in December, so now she’s sportin’ new leggings and a new tutu!

Seen on today’s run. I also tried running to Walton Lighthouse by the harbor but the Jetty was closed due to high surf–I got cooled off with some nice sea spray while running towards it, though!

we have us another pre-schooler

Well, this past week, Chloe officially transferred up to the pre-school. It’s hard to believe. She is still so small! But, she is very verbal and has handled the transition extremely well. She is already so used to playing with bigger kids — thanks to Cameron and Dylan — that the transition actually seemed natural…add in the fact that Cameron seriously adores her and so easily and joyfully takes care of her, and you can see how Chloe could be just fine up there! The ladies at the school tell me they are so proud of Cameron. She is so sweet and so helpful with Chloe. She helps Chloe out and also lets them know if Chloe needs or wants a diaper change! We are proud of her, too.

The transition was quick — the staff started bringing her up after nap time about 2 weeks before they moved her up for good! And, already, she has tried peeing in the potty (according to Cameron, she sat on the potty twice on her first full day! For the past few days, she has been sitting on her potty at home with, so far, one successfull little dribble rewarded with a stamp on her potty chart!).

Now, Chloe and Cameron are singing the same songs….The one in the picture above is a song that ends with “don’t let Chloe…FALL DOWN!” and both girls giggling and Chloe asking for more. Cameron is always so sweet about complying. When Chloe asks for something, Cameron is so sweet about getting it for her, or doing whatever Chloe is demanding of her (getting under the blanket, closing up the space in the blanket, etc. etc). It’s very sweet! I hope their friendship and bond will always be strong!

We saw Lola the day after Chloe’s bday celebration and, of course, Lola had ridiculously cute girl things ready for her. She actually bought this outfit for Cameron way back when, but Cameron, you might recall, was a fussy li’l one and wasn’t really keen on trying things on that you picked out! So, she never wanted to wear it.

Chloe didn’t mind trying it on at all! In fact, she really, really wanted to wear it! Thank you, Lola, for another cute thing my girls would never have had if all their clothing purchases were left to me!!

Like Cameron, Chloe likes dresses…so far, anyway! This one is an oldie, too. It used to be Auntie Christina’s…and Cameron wore it, too! I hope it makes it to the next girl in our family!!!

She liked wearing this lovely dress that Lola picked out for her to wear at Auntie Christina’s upcoming wedding! You can also see that she has mastered the “cheesin'” smile!

another day, another dress
Originally uploaded by coffywoman.

Lola bought a bunch of other festive clothes with a tropical flare as well–all for the upcoming wedding. What would I do without my mom because, lawd only knows I hate shopping, especially for frilly stuff. Anyway, we really wanted to keep all of these clothes clean for the trip, but Chloe spied this and demanded to wear it (yes, she is opinionated already–cupcake/cake themed shirts and princess socks only, please…or a pretty dress, apparently!). Luckily, she made it through the school day without staining or ripping it!

It was a Monday (school day) and it was chilly. I thought to myself, she needs something warm. Since she’s wearing a very cute, but impractical dress, I may as well put her in her very cute but WHITE sweater.

Since I decided not to do my Monday run that day, I took the girls to story time. We listened to stories about ducks and then they got to do a coloring page and make paper bag duck puppets with a cute feathered tail! After that, it was off to school for them and off to work for me. The girls were requesting to go to the beach, but we didn’t have time to squeeze it in beforehand. Maybe next time!
