For the first time ever, we trick-or-treated in our own neighborhood! Taliana, Heather and clan (Assaf, her brother David who was visiting from Oregon, and her parents) came to join us. Taliana, et al did the Wizard of Oz theme — fantastic costumes! Here are the two big kids ready to collect some candy!

Before heading out, we got a family shot of all of us — Boots, the Map, Dora and Swiper!

Dylan selected the theme this year. For a while, it was between Wizard of Oz and Dora (since I got the mom-bob just before Cameron was born), but I was secretly relieved that Dora won out. This was a much easier theme to create costumes for!

By the way, I love how Tom gets into it…I mean, check out his costume!! He worked on this the day before and the day-of and did a pretty good job, all things considered! He also drew the map face on Cameron’s Map costume. Gotta love the enthusiasm!!

Here are some pics from the evening.

I should mention that we discovered a neighbor who has a model railroad with tracks that go all around from front-yard to back!

Dylan nearly stopped trick or treating right then and there. He had to ask the owner where his train was (and he got an invitation to come back during the day to see it — haven’t taken them up on that yet), and before we left the house, he had to point out all of the neat layout features (a bridge, a station, an Easter Island statue–ok, Bozsi and I pointed that one out)….

Two houses later, Dylan had to share with the other neighbor that she was living right next to a train layout and that he was invited to go back to see it during the day!

Meanwhile, Cameron wanted in on the action! She saw the big kids running up to doors and she wanted to do the same!

She got sooo excited going up to people’s doors and seeing their jack-o-lanterns and lights…and the inside of their homes!

One house had an aquarium just inside the doors and she was yapping away, excitedly pointing at the fish.

She had no fear and loved looking at all of the Halloween decorations in people’s yards. I mean, she was just so incredibly vocal, excited, active. She could barely stand to stay in my or Tom’s arms!

Heather as Glenda the Good Witch (Bozsi, her mom, was the Wicked Witch of the West). As a group, they got oodles of compliments on their costumes — all of which were home-made!

Here’s Jamilah (a good friend) as a “Gothic Maiden”(!) along with Dennis the Lion and Bozsi the Witch. David is in the background, as the Scarecrow.

As soon as we got home, Dylan plopped down on the floor and started with the sorting, “is this vegan? is this vegan? is this vegan?” I had to say no to all of the chocolate bars and PB cups and I was worried he was unhappy about it all. Instead he was stoked! He said, “I’m going to sell you all my non-vegan candy!” So he gave me the non-vegan stuff and I gave him 3 bucks. All parties were happy (he’s still saving for that stomp rocket!)! Of course, we also have our vegan versions of the Milky Way, 3 Musketeers and Snickers (Twilights, Buccaneers, and Jokerz) as well as peanut butter choco bites that we swapped in for a few of their non-vegan counterparts…!

Overall, another fun Halloween, even though we missed spending it with Jason and Tyler. With Cameron as excited and involved as she was this year, next year is sure to be even more fun.
