Dylan spiked a fever at school again on Friday–I have a feeling it’s related to waking up at 2am with a bloody nose and then getting awakened by Cameron before 6am. Poor guy must be running a serious sleep deficit and his poor immune system is suffering!
Luckily, he managed to make it through the school’s “beach party.” He was so excited about it, he’d been talking about it since Wednesday! Not only did the kids get to run through sprinklers in their swimsuits, they had a special ice cream snack treat on their towels (and, yep, we armed the teachers with vegan ice cream for him)!
The teachers could tell he was not feeling well because he was pretty listless and looked kind of glazed, even after the ice cream! By the time we got there to pick him up, he was actually napping on a mat; for this little “no nap-nick” this was a total giveaway that something was not quite right.
When we got home, we set him up in a cozy blanket on the couch and let him watch some Dora episodes, dosed him up with some meds to break the fever and finished out our work days.
In the meantime, we got wind that Christina and Dre were at the beach, sunning the day away, so we invited them over to sample our homemade pesto (we were a pesto-making factory this past Tuesday–did a bulk-buy of 12 bunches from our farm share and immediately converted most of it to pesto).
Dylan was sooo excited to see his Auntie! He showed her his new bed, toured her around our backyard and the path behind the house; he pointed out his ability to walk up the steep back hillside (something we’ve always asked him to steer clear of), the steps the landscapers “cleaned up”, the cacti and podseeds and even the drainage pipes along the trail. He happily bounced beside his auntie and requested to hold hands with her for safety! It was very sweet!
Since it was a “special occasion,” we let the kids have chocolate ice cream for dessert. Tom was incredulous, worried that the kids wouldn’t sleep, but the kids had so much fun and got so tuckered out by Christina and Dre’s visit, they sacked out shortly after we took them up.
You can always tell when Dylan is not feeling so hot. It shows in his sweet little mug. He was such a trooper, though and, obviously, his spirits were buoyed by his Auntie’s visit!
We were also stoked to see the two…not only because they’re great company, but also because I’d bought a dozen vegan Psycho Donuts the night before and there was no way we should have had those all to ourselves!
Anyway, it was so nice to see them on this side of the hill…hopefully, the summer activities around here will entice them to come back…!
