Halloween celebratin’ really started weeks ago what with decorating some of the rooms in our house and getting the old talking skeleton out of the garage, etc., but still, on the actual day, both kids were pretty excited!
Dylan’s day started with a parade first thing in the morning. It was very, very cute. Juan wasn’t there, but Mrs. Mueller, a German lady who taught the kids to count in German(!) was their substitute teacher and she tried to organize an early-morning class picture. Not everyone was there, but Dylan was! You see him? He’s the valiant knight in the back.
I still don’t know all of the kids in the class, but I do know Melia (Taliana’s neighbor), Rebeccah (her mom is one of the classroom parents) and Lexi. The gal with the colored hair, I don’t know….
Dylan had a blast during the parade…and then afterwards as well. The class decorated pumpkin muffins with dried fruit (thank goodness we got a heads-up over email so I could make a special batch of vegan pumpkin muffins with vegan cream cheese frosting for Dylan) and then also got some mini eyeball cupcakes that Dylan brought to class.
Alright. So it took an hour to frost those tiny cupcakes and I had to wake up at 6:30am to do it. But, Dylan loved it, so it was worth it.
Cameron had to come along and, boy, was she great! She and Dylan held hands and she kept pace with the big kids as they paraded through a classroom and did their wide loop around the buildings!
Dylan was so sweet, too. He never made her feel like she wasn’t supposed to be there. He loved walking around with her and would wait for her when she started to fall behind a little!
Here’s Marlon right behind Dylan…!
I picked up Taliana and Dylan from the after-school program on the earlier side and once Tom and Cameron arrived (from Lola’s house) and Heather, Assaf and P. arrived, we fed the kids some spaghetti “guts” with olive eyeballs (really, they had plain pasta and the adults had the red sauce!) and then suited up for trick or treating….
Unlike Dylan, who refused to have ANYTHING on his head at the age of 2, Cameron was completely ok with her costume. In fact, she loved it! When another kid roared like a dragon, she exclaimed, “You’re not a dragon! I’m a dragon!”
We tried to get a photo of all of the kids together, but they were too distracted to stay together for very long.
Since we’re up that big, long driveway, we weren’t expecting anyone to come! But, we set out a bowl of play-doh and sugar-free lollipops anyway. And, right before we left, Dylan’s classmate Michael appeared!!! He and his older sister were our first trick-or-treaters!!
Here’s Cameron, ready to rock ‘n’ roll.
Somebody finally bought the house way up in front of our’s and they moved in the day before Halloween. Tom is socalizing while the kids started heading for the next house. Incidentally, the little girl with the witch’s hat is another one of Dylan’s classmates/buddies (Gibson). It was kind of nice to recognize some neighborhood kids! A bit later on, we saw Melia as well…
Cameron fell right into the trick-or-treating groove immediately. She’d go up with the bigger kids, say the magic words, pick out her treat and say thanks like she’d been doing it for years!
Cameron even held her own bag practically the entire time! She actually insisted on holding it! She was amazing…Dylan got tired before she did! So, after nearly 2 hours, we went home. Looking forward to next year when we’ll have another little one to tow around with us. More madness===more fun, right??
