Oh, but why did we need a little Belgian Ale to lift our spirits this evening?? Well, while Tom was at work, I decided I’d attempt to single-mom-it to the Rail Corridor Ribbon Cutting festivities. After all, we still have a train lover amongst us and I knew he would probably want to see the train roll on through the whistle stop. Plus, Finley’s mom is one of the organizers and I figured he’d probably be there.
Since it rained earlier in the day, I suggested rain boots for the big kids in case they wanted to splash in puddles. Dylan decided to just wear his Keens, but Cameron was just ecstatic to wear rain boots…up until the moment we poured out of our car and encountered Finley and his dad!
After that, it was awful. After procuring a couple of complimentary wooden train whistles for the big kids, we had to make our way back to the car to contend with Cameron’s fit. As it turns out, the boots we put on were too small and her poor feet were hurting–I felt so bad for getting upset with her! After I realized her shoes were hurting her, I managed to persuade her to put on Dylan’s Dino rain boots that she’d pulled on before getting into the car (once in the car, she’d proclaimed that they “scared” her and she wanted her pink boots). But, still, her jolly mood was ruined and she spent the vast majority of the time on the brink of complete meltdown!
But, we made it through the hour of festivities (oooh, what a long hour!) and we made it home about 3 seconds before Tom did!
Our poor fragile girl. I sure hope this is a passing phase!
She was much cheerier in the late afternoon/evening, even without having taken a nap! For the most part, the 2 kids had fun playing together, even Chloe joined in!
Look what Amazon sent to us! Thank goodness for boxes…!
After grocery shopping and a serving of Duvel (pictured above), my spirits were renewed and I spent some of the evening playing ukelele and piano with the kids. Dylan learned “Row, row, row your boat” and I strummed the C and G-chords on the uke in accompaniment!
