Both kids were able to do the SuperKids Tri this year ! Neither Dylan nor Cameron had been in a pool since end of July when their swim lessons ended and we didn’t have time to really practice anything — biking or running — with either of them! I felt a little guilty as I could not really imagine entering an event without any training whatsoever, so how could I expect this of my kids?? But, they really did well, though it was definitely a challenge for both of them. Dylan was the only one willing to pose on the podium, for reasons I’ll explain !
As you can see, Cameron looked so joyful during the run! We love seeing this smile on this girl! But, shortly after she finished, one of her classmates (school had just started a few weeks before, so they don’t know each other very well), told her that she finished before her and this really bummed her out (and me, for that matter!).
Not only did the classmate say this to poor, sensitive Cameron, she and her mom had shared a swim lane with Tom and Cameron and her mom actually told me that she pushed her daughter a bit so that they could get in front of Cameron! I didn’t quite know how to respond, so I didn’t, but I was a bit flummoxed by the statement!
Oh, so we experienced a couple of technical difficulties during Cameron’s heat: 1) she was too big for her balance bike but she’s not yet adept on her pedal bike; 2) her shoes were still slightly too big and so the velcro kept on coming undone (too little velcro loops on the velcro tape because it was cinched as tight as possible). So, here’s Tom assisting her with her shoes.
And, here she is on her bike with her super long legs!
Ok, so my pictures are always in reverse order, so here’s Cameron in the pool.
We weren’t allowed to be in the transition area for Dylan and he had some trouble getting his race belt on, so a volunteer was kind enough to come and help him. It took up quite some time!
I actually bought this picture of Dylan running out on the trail (as I don’t believe we were allowed in that area), but I loved it. He’s so focused and his form is so naturally good–I have a series of wallpapers that rotate on my laptop Desktop and this is one of them (as is the one of Cameron). Seeing these kids run does give me joy!
Chloe was allllll about the snacks and drinks.
One last photo of the 3 kids all together. Hopefully, both kids will be willing to participate again…and I think Chloe will be able to do her first one! Until then….
