We began this year’s Thanksgiving with an early morning turkey trot over in San Jose. This meant we pretty much had to have all of our cooking done by Wednesday night! Tom didn’t register to run this year, so after nursing Cameron one last time, I left at about 7am and he kindly stayed with the kids, packed them up in the car, and drove them over in time for Dylan to run the kids race! Three cheers for awesome daddy/hubbies!
Dylan clearly had fun but at 60m long, his run was just way too short! He barely had time to pick up speed!
The race was super short, but Dylan loves his new medal and his new swag (a BPA-free Camelbak, hand sanitizer attached to a carbiner, and some crayons and a coloring sheet)! By the way, can you tell, daddy-o dressed our li’l gal?
Immediately after the races, we made our way over to Lola’s house where the usual holiday madness and fun ensued. Tyler moonwalked, Dylan was (in his own words), “rock and rollin'”. We all played Guitar Hero and Rock Band, Tyler and Dylan did an art project. Of course, there was some sleepin’ and karaoke at the end of the evening!
As it is every year, we feasted like royalty. This year, we didn’t get the “tofurkey” from Tofoo Com Chay, though. Instead we got a Celebration Field Roast. All together, Tom and I made the gluten-free jalapeno-cheddar corn bread we made for the soup party, pioneer corn bread, roasted brussels sprouts with carmelized onions and toasted pistachios, candied sweet potatoes, potato-parsley-sage stuffing, and a kabocha squash pie. My mom made vegan corn bread pudding, collard greens, and a wild rice-mushroom stuffing, Cindy made some vegan mashed potatoes, and Christina made bruschetta appetizers and cranberry sauce.
We’re sorry we didn’t get a chance to visit with Eli and Rocky who were up visiting their grandma, but we’re looking forward to seeing everyone soon and hoping everyone down in LA had nice celebrations as well. We were certainly thinking of everyone.
