Last Friday, Dylan’s preschool hosted a sweet little graduation celebration and lunch at a nearby park! Dylan chose to wear his Hawaii shirt–we love this shirt on him. So glad Fred and Julie sent along a new Hawaii shirt because Dylan just loves them (he loves his new one, too!).
Dylan was sooo excited about the graduation celebration. As soon as I’d parked the car, he was already out of his car seat and hurtling towards the playground where Nate was already playing.
After letting the kids run around for a while, the teachers gathered up the kids and they did a little “parade” to their spots on the big blanket and then they recited about ten poems from memory. How sweet was that??
Dylan’s favorite poem is “May Wind”….I think he likes whispering the “summer. is. near” part!
Each child was seated in front of a giant piece of cake (and, this time, Cathy, the Director, had gotten a vegan cake for Dylan from Staff of Life!) loaded up with a bunch of candles “wishes.” Each child then went around the circle and got another candle/wish from everyone else.
Every child also got a “lei” of every other child’s hand print and wish. The teachers cut out and wrote out every child’s hand and wish. What a labor of love!
The sentiments ranged from “I want to wish them Spaghetti” and “I wish them Spider Man” to “I wish them good luck,” etc. Dylan’s wish was “I wish them love.” <3
Only Rylee will be going to the same school as Dylan so Dylan gave Nate a big hug goodbye.
And, of course, Auntie Heather wouldn’t have missed the celebration for the world. She took time out of her incredibly busy day to join the celebration.
Dylan loved the roses we got for him. I love how he finds things beautiful! He picked a spot on his desk for them and has been appreciating their beauty daily!
Over this past weekend, we also reenacted graduation a few times. We did a little procession to the living room, sat down in a circle and recited our poems!
The whole daycare path hasn’t always been a smooth one, but overall, we are so pleased with his school. This is one loving group of gals and I feel grateful for the good care they’ve provided!
Each child also got a wonderful book, Amos and Boris, which talks about two friends who help each other out and, in the end, though they may never see one another again, they will always remember each other….
Incidentally, this was a very special graduating group–these kids were among the first to have started in the infant room when the school first opened. Dylan wasn’t the first one in there (I think Nate was!!), but having started at 11 months, he was one of the early starters to have gone all the way through!
It’s hard to believe that Dylan will start kindergarten in just a few weeks! And, Cameron will transition to the preschool this month as well (they are already bringing her up into the big room to familiarize her with the space! Oy. Time.
