We intended to head to LA the day after Christmas, but after getting home so late on Christmas night, Tom and I realized it would be insane to try to pack and be ready and energized for such a long trip the next night. We ended up leaving on Tuesday morning and braving the road trip with kids wide awake!
Dylan got pretty bored–even armed with Tag pen and books, Leapster, and an mp3 player loaded up with music, and some DVDs. He really only wanted to watch one Leap Frog DVD before he got tired and then it was all “are we there yet” from there!
He decided he liked being asleep and waking up and “magically” being in LA (we decided we agreed…Tom, especially, was getting worn out by the complaints!)!
Miraculously, he stayed awake the entire trip!
Cameron had an easier time entertaining herself with her Tag pen and Leapster, but she at least sacked out for a couple of hours en route.
I brought my camera, but an incredible series of brain lapses had me forgetting to take it out…! Still, we had a great visit with Grandma Sharon (we’re all so happy she’s doing much better).
Dylan has such fond memories of being in LA. He is always so excited to see her! He spent a lot of time hanging out reading and playing games with her on the bed!
Another highlight of the trip was visiting Griffith Park for the first time!
Of course, Dylan loved riding the train! And, as luck would have it, we got to ride the “steam” train as well as the diesel.
The weather was sooo beautiful in LA, too! Of course, I expected cold weather so we were all wearing the wrong thing–long sleeves!
At least I had my cameraphone.
Cameron wanted to ride a pony, so she did! And she rode all by herself!! I was a little worried she’d get scared, but she was just fine doing her two laps with her pony…when the pony stopped to look around, so did she!!
The only part she didn’t like was when she was left on her pony and her pony got bumped by some others coming back in! She still talks about how her pony got “bumped by the other pony a little bit.”
I’m really bummed I didn’t get pictures the whole time we were there! The kids also really, really enjoyed seeing Eli and Rocky and playing with them.
It didn’t take long for Cameron to come out of her shell with the kids. In no time at all, she and Rocky were holding hands and she would come back to the dinner table to report that they were all hiding from Eli.
We ended up having to stay in LA an extra night because Tom got some tummy bug — poor Dylan wanted to see his cousins some more before we left! But, as always, we’ll have the next visit to look forward to…..
