Easy tiger!
We headed to Cindy’s for Tyler’s 3rd bday party where Dylan took a picture with Jason (shown here), mom, Auntie Cindy, Alexa (cousin Teena’s youngest daughter), Zoe (Teena’s older daughter), Auntie Ieanna, Auntie Christina, and Andre.
In fact, Tom and I barely got to hold him! Dylan was just pleased as punch to have all this attention showered on him; people actually believe he doesn’t cry much!
Aside from that, I think Tyler (or Kilele — his Hawaiian name) had a nice bday/luau celebration.
As soon as Christina uploads pics from her camera, I’ll add a link to them from here.
…Heather called us up first thing in the morning to see if we were interested in a daytime excursion…I suddenly remembered having gone to Happy Hollow with Cindy when Rob was just a toddler, so Heather and Taliana, Dylan and I packed up our things and headed out to check out the park.
True to the Yelp reviews, the park is in need of some maintenance work, but I think the kids still had fun. Taliana rode a few rides while Dylan and I ambled about and checked out the scenery, etc. He loves being outside, so he was just fine with laying down on the bench and watching and listening to what was going on around him…
This morning, for the first time ever, Dylan calmly tolerated tummy time. Usually, he immediately starts fussing once he’s put on his belly, so he doesn’t stay belly down for very long at all (usually just minutes). But, this morning, he really just held himself up like a champ.
I even had enough time to take a a couple of photos.
Then, when Tom got home from work, I asked him if he wanted to see how well Dylan did on his belly….I set Dylan down on the mat and the next thing we knew, Dylan had rolled himself over!
Thinking this may have been a fluke, we put him on his belly again and he did it again…and then once again!
I can’t believe how quickly he’s changing and developing…Aside from rolling over, he’s now also very entertained — he laughs and coos — by the light-up star tied to the top of his playmat, and he’s far more tolerant of the swing.
We’re hoping that his patience with being in a carseat will be the next big “developmental” milestone….
Dylan is so happy daddy got to go to story time this week…!
Mom was jonesing for a visit, so she and Mike came over to escape the San Jose heat and have lunch at Sri. Dylan was pretty darn jolly. He was all smiles and gurgles for mom, which of course made her happy!
As you can see, Dylan is plumping up pretty nicely! His onesies are getting a little snug — Tom now says he looks like a little German gymnast! “…and Dylan gets a 10 for playmat time!!”
Today we got his new stats from the doctor — he’s a whopping 11 pounds, 23 inches tall, and his head circumference is something like 15 1/8.
At 11 pounds, Dylan is still only in the 25th percentile by weight (he’s at the 50th percentile by height).
That means, there are some ladies out there who are delivering some BIG babies! I have to say, I’m glad Dylan wasn’t one of them (for my own sake…!!!).
So, he also got his vaccinations today which, poor thing, are making him a little unhappy. He’s mostly sleeping it off, but I can tell he’s bothered when he wakes up crying as if he’s in pain.
We are planning on giving him a little bath later on tonight to help soothe his muscles (as recommended by the doctor).
Today, Tom and I walked the 6 mile Wharf to Wharf event (from Santa Cruz to Capitola) with Dylan riding along in the Baby Bjorn.
Dylan was incredibly patient! Here he is showing his enthusiasm for eating!!
We fed him before the event began and, after checking out the scene for a little while, he eventually went to sleep and only woke up at around the 5-mile mark.
While Tom went to get the car, I fed him, changed his diaper in a nearby park (where two cute little girls — a 4-year old and her 2-year old sister — fawned over him for a while), and fed him (again!) at Gayle’s Bakery, where we eventually met Tom.
Afterwards, we headed for El Palomar in downtown Santa Cruz where we enjoyed a burrito and cold drinks while Dylan (gratefully!) continued to sleep.
So far, we’ve been doing well with our morning semi-routine. For a few weeks now, we’ve been getting out of bed around 8-ish AM. We open the blinds and let the sunshine in and then Dylan will tolerate anywhere from 10-20 minutes of playmat time. After that, I often put him on my lap and we sing, stretch and do a little exercise.
During yesterday’s lap-time session, I held up my camera phone hoping to capture one of his smiles (I wasn’t disappointed!) and, finally, after a few minutes of really staring at it intently, Dylan flashed me a smile!
