Last Friday, poor Cameron was complaining of a tummy ache and before we even had a chance to get our morning started, she threw up! I wasn’t sure if it was food poisoning from dinner the night before (we’d celebrated Tom’s bday with a dinner at Thai House with HAT) or if she had a touch of stomach flu, so I just decided to stay home with her.
Then, Chloe fell asleep right when it was time to take her into daycare, so I decided I’d just let her nap in the Ergo!
Luckily, Cameron was feeling pretty good after emptying out from both ends. She did a bunch of Color with Water Hello Kitty paintings and, since Chloe was napping well, I actually got some work done!
I also put the 50mm/f1.8 lens back on my camera (my favorite lens) and got some shots with the mess behind the girls nicely blurred away! You can see Cameron sitting in Chloe’s activity center in front of her Hello Kitty water color!
Overall, it was a nicely mellow mix of working and spending time with the girls. I loved it. I wish everyday could be so smooth (in the work world and the kiddie world)!

Oh, but why did we need a little Belgian Ale to lift our spirits this evening?? Well, while Tom was at work, I decided I’d attempt to single-mom-it to the Rail Corridor Ribbon Cutting festivities. After all, we still have a train lover amongst us and I knew he would probably want to see the train roll on through the whistle stop. Plus, Finley’s mom is one of the organizers and I figured he’d probably be there.
Since it rained earlier in the day, I suggested rain boots for the big kids in case they wanted to splash in puddles. Dylan decided to just wear his Keens, but Cameron was just ecstatic to wear rain boots…up until the moment we poured out of our car and encountered Finley and his dad!
After that, it was awful. After procuring a couple of complimentary wooden train whistles for the big kids, we had to make our way back to the car to contend with Cameron’s fit. As it turns out, the boots we put on were too small and her poor feet were hurting–I felt so bad for getting upset with her! After I realized her shoes were hurting her, I managed to persuade her to put on Dylan’s Dino rain boots that she’d pulled on before getting into the car (once in the car, she’d proclaimed that they “scared” her and she wanted her pink boots). But, still, her jolly mood was ruined and she spent the vast majority of the time on the brink of complete meltdown!
But, we made it through the hour of festivities (oooh, what a long hour!) and we made it home about 3 seconds before Tom did!
Our poor fragile girl. I sure hope this is a passing phase!
She was much cheerier in the late afternoon/evening, even without having taken a nap! For the most part, the 2 kids had fun playing together, even Chloe joined in!
Look what Amazon sent to us! Thank goodness for boxes…!
After grocery shopping and a serving of Duvel (pictured above), my spirits were renewed and I spent some of the evening playing ukelele and piano with the kids. Dylan learned “Row, row, row your boat” and I strummed the C and G-chords on the uke in accompaniment!

We were really impressed when we asked Dylan just last night if he wanted to run the Turkey Trot here in town on the very next day. We told him neither of us parents would be running; it would just be him and he said he wanted to do it…as well as the Turkey Trot in San Jose on Thanksgiving Day!
So, early this morning, we woke up at about 6:45am and asked him if he still wanted to go and the answer was yes! This, despite the fact that it was cold and wet outside and still drizzling.
So, while Tom watched the girls (Cameron desperately wanted to go, but she woke up just as we were leaving), Dylan and I headed out.
At a full 1K, this is a relatively long run and Dylan ran the entire thing! And, he was such a trooper with the rain. I’d forgotten his rain jacket so he was just out there in his hoodie, but he totally didn’t mind. Nor did he mind all of that rain going into his face! I love this little guy and his enthusiasm for running and for tradition. I hope all of these annual events we do will be fond memories for him when he’s all grown up.

Tom and I finally found a weekend day to celebrate our anniversary! HAT had offered to have the kids over for a sleep-over (a sleep-over!!!) quite a few weeks back…and, of course, Lola also offered to watch the kids, but we just didn’t have the time.
The kids had really been looking forward to the sleep-over with Taliana and K, so we went ahead with that plan and decided to take Chloe to dinner with us (since she’s still relatively easy to drag along).
Vegan options are expanding, but we don’t really get a chance to indulge in fancy meals, so we always go with the tried and true, leaving experimentation for the random excursion.
So, we made our way to Millennium in SF. And it was nice. We had uninterrupted conversation on the way there and back…and during dinner! Plus the food was incredible.
We had grand plans to watch a movie once we got back to the house, but wouldn’t you know it, as soon as I sat down to nurse Chloe to sleep, I sacked out. And then so did Tom! Sigh!! Maybe next year!!!

The two big kids have been really enjoying setting up shop here at home. They set up tents, counters, tables, etc. and they “bake” cookies, cupcakes and brownies and serve coffee to their customers.
Dylan has been getting in a lot of writing practice in the form of making signs: “1 dollar a cookie”; “Please do not disturb”….
Anyway, I thought it was such a sweet way for them to play–especially since they were actually cooperating rather than bickering, that I decided to made some chocolate chip scones for them to sell.
They didn’t look too pretty, but they tasted a-ok!
We celebrated Auntie Heather’s and Auntie Cindy’s birthdays this past weekend. Lots of fun hanging out with buddies and with cousins!!
Here, Heather is screaming as she cuts her cake — it’s tradition in her family. I love Dylan’s reaction!
Small box for many small hands to unwrap!
At Auntie Cindy’s celebration, Jason busted out some lazer tag equipment and he suited Dylan up in some protective gear!
Chloe had fun.
In fact, she was having so much fun, she didn’t nap at all (save for about 45 minutes in the car!)!!
Jason really wanted to hold her! He’s still so sweet with babies!!
And, here’s the other bday gal!
Phew! What a week!
Here’s Chloe in one of those outfits that Grandma Sharon and Auntie Julie picked out! She’s freshly showered and showing off her tooth!
And here’s Tom with both girls, both clean!
While poor Dylan was in school, Tom and I got to take Chloe and Cameron on the train to the pumpkin patch on Bear Mountain. These past couple of years, the preschool has decided to do this field trip instead of walking the kids to the pumpkin patch ont he other side of the hospital.
Cameron loved it. She had mine and Tom’s attention and she got to see her school friends.
Here she is with Tom, happily waiting for the train to start loading us all up.
I took this for Dylan….
And, Chloe was pretty happy…until we got to Bear Mountain! So, while Tom and Cameron picked out her little pumpkin, I stayed behind and nursed our sweet Pumpkin Pie.
All in all, it was a nice way to spend the morning…and Nate’s little sister Camille is at SG2 as well, so we had a nice short visit with Todd (Nate’s dad)!
