wednesdays

Before I went on maternity leave, I reduced both Dylan’s and Cameron’s daycare/after school care and decided it would be a nice idea to triple-up on Wednesdays. The girls and I go to story time in the morning and are usually done picking books by the time we have to leave to get Dylan from school. I do love having all 3 with me, but sometimes, just the mere thought of loading everyone up into the car and driving is tiring! But apparently, this is true for the kids, too! This past Wednesday, I actually suggested the beach, but the kids just wanted to go home. I didn’t argue with them! We had a nice picnic lunch out in the backyard followed by a yummy ice cream cone treat and they rode scooters and shot some hoops. It was perfect.

chloe hits the 1-month mark

tummy time - day 29

Just got back from Chloe’s 1-month check-up and she’s looking good. She is now at a whopping 9 lbs. 1 oz. and is in the 67th percentile for height. She still has the jaundice — today’s reading was at 14.1 — but it’s not a medically significant number. Still, I can’t wait ’til she kicks the yellow tint!

Also, as to be expected, she despises tummy time, but I make her do it at least twice a day!

It’s been kind of a whirlwind month. I still can’t believe she’s already a month old!

I finally got around to volunteering in Dylan’s classroom last week. Dylan has been asking if I can hang out in his class since school started!! I was planning on having Chloe in the Ergo and staying until recess or until she started fussing, whichever came first, but Tom kindly offered to stick around and watch the girls while I was away (this was my first time being away from Chloe).

I felt oddly light without my little load!! I really felt like I was missing something! But, it was definitely nice not to have Chloe because I did do a fair amount of bending over to yap with kids while I was in the classroom and it’s harder to do that with a baby on you!!

As to the classroom experience…I was able to get a better sense of Dylan’s teacher’s philosophy and approach as well as the students’ range of abilities. While I was there, they did art, circle time, and math. Oh, and Dylan did show and tell, sharing this toy train we picked up for him from Griffiths park. After he described what kind of train it was, he turned to the kids and said, “Questions?” It was the cutest thing (this is obviously part of their show and tell format)! A bunch of kids then raised their hands and Dylan addressed a few questions (among them: “where did you get it?” “did you get it at a gift shop?” “where was the park in LA?” and “do you use it[the train]”. Good stuff!

Well, Chloe is finally starting to kick the jaundice…and she’s at 3 weeks, so she’s finally beginning to stay awake and alert for a bit before sacking back out! Here’s her alert little face probably wondering what all the ruckus is!!

day 23 - SV Story Time
day 23 – SV Story Time

I like the rain…and I especially appreciate the ocean on a nice stormy day, but I have to admit that rain is not so pleasant an experience when you have kids to tend to! Despite the steady downpour, the girls and I somehow made it to story time this morning with only (hopefully) a few drops of rain landing on poor Chloe’s little head!

Cameron doesn’t mind it one bit–she put on her snow boots (just call them rain boots around her) and her big jacket, donned her hood and started eagerly looking for puddles to stomp in. Of course, when she stomped in a particularly big one, my pants were the ones to get drenched!!

After story time, we had to make our way back home to pick up Dylan from school and, of course, Cameron had to sack out on the way home. This is usually a good thing, but when I actually have to park the car and get out of it, it is a bit more complicated. I pondered and wondered what to do as I found a parking spot just outside Dylan’s school. And then Chloe woke up. Then, of course while I was loading Chloe up into the Ergo, I heard her have a massive poop…and Cameron was still sleeping. So standing there under an umbrella in the rain with Chloe strapped to my chest, I pondered some more…2 minutes to the end of the school day….I tried waking Cameron up but when she didn’t wake up right away, I decided to make a break for it. Luckily, Dylan was the first one out of the class and we got back to the car in mere minutes! Now back home enjoying the warm house, hot cocoa, apple slices, and popcorn!

It’s been a while since we’ve seen Finley, but this past weekend, we were all at a bday party for a friend whose family will be moving to Hawaii next week. The party was at the roller rink and for some reason, Dylan didn’t want to skate. I think the crowd kind of overwhelmed him — the party was during a normal open skate time and the weather was a bit chilly, so lots more people than usual were at the rink, too.

Anyway, after Finley wiped out pretty much 2 minutes into his own skating attempts, he didn’t feel much like skating either! Both boys (and Cameron) thought tackling Tom would be a very fun alternative…and so that’s what they did!

Three cheers for dads and old buddies.

chloe’s first day at the beach x2

On Fridays, Taliana usually picks Dylan up from the after-school program and they head to HAT’s house for some after-school play time. Since it was beautiful outside, though, H. and I thought it might be nice to hang out at the beach instead. She picked up the big kids, I picked Cameron up from daycare and then we regrouped and headed out.

This was her second trip to the beach…in one day! Earlier in the day, we met up at Seabright Beach with Kaden and his mom to find out more info about another local elementary school from yet another mom friend who was already there.

Normally, we have gymnastics with Kaden on Friday mornings, but both Jenny and I decided the kids were ready for something a little more structured, but we couldn’t decide what to do, so we are in-between sessions of some as of yet undecided activity. Going to the beach was a spontaneous decision, but it seemed like as good a day as any to attempt hauling 2-year old, sand toys, diaper bag, snacks, and a baby Chloe across the sand.

The beach did not disappoint…in the morning or in the afternoon. And, things more or less went smoothly (i.e. no blowouts in a sandy environment!).

dylan and chloe

I think Chloe is her own little person with her own little face, but I can’t help but notice the strong resemblances, too….
