We got to do a dry run with our Halloween costumes this past Friday when we took the kids to Goblyn’s Glen in Los Gatos for some extremely light trick or treating, a walk through a haunted cemetery/house/pirate ship, and some train and carousel rides.

This was Cameron’s first time trying on her dragon outfit (size 2T-4T)….First, I’m so happy she wore it! Second, I was shocked at how small it already is on her!

At her last doc appointment, she weighed in at about the 75th percentile and height was right around there as well, so she is larger than average, but too big for a costume sized for up to 4T???

We took Taliana with us and met Tom at the park where he brought us some yummy Tofoo Com Chay for dinner. After the kids finished, we suited them up in their outfits and they started to explore while we waited for Heather, Assaf and the rest of the gang.

After the carousel ride, we went through Goblyn’s Glen where the kids walked through spooky-ness and collected treats (the treats were scant and basically a rip-off, but oh, well!). Cameron and Dylan emerged unscathed but the other gals were apparently pretty traumatized!

As you can see, Taliana dressed up as a knight, too! It’s so sweet that she was willing to just jump right into Dylan’s theme! They are truly great friends to each other. Taliana also wanted me to take this picture for her board (where she posts family pictures).

After the girls emerged from Goblyn’s Glen in tears, I was a bit worried, but K. perked up for the train ride and Taliana was definitely cheery enough in our car on the way back home. Not so sure if we’ll do it again next year, but Cameron and Dylan definitely seemed to enjoy it, and they are still talking about it!

He is now keeping a calendar in his backpack so he can know what days he’s in after-school program and which days he’ll ride the bus home with Taliana (incidentally, it’s all good. He loves the after-school program, especially now that Taliana is there 2x a week with him as well, and he loves riding the bus home with Taliana)!

My wonderful nephew Jason is now 10! I can barely believe it. I still remember getting Cindy’s phone call telling me she was in labor and that I shouldn’t worry, it would take some time, go ahead and shower, etc. By the time I got to labor and delivery, I’d missed his entrance by 10 minutes (I learned my lesson and didn’t bother with hygiene when it was Tyler’s turn…and that time, Tyler took HOURS to come out!)!

Time does fly! He’s still as charming and as talkative as he’s ever been and has grown into a seriously great kid. I mean, look at him! He’s a great big cousin.

My nephews are fearless when it comes to critters. They found (yet another) snake in their neighborhood and took him home (Jeff had snakes when he was a kid, too, so he knows a fair amount about them). This one is also named Peter.

Tyler, sweet nephew #4, spent oodles of time trying to encourage Cameron to pet or hold the snake. She wouldn’t (and he was super patient and gentle with her), but she followed Tyler around like a groupie.

The kids crawled through a tunnel that was much, much longer than this one. Cameron was nervous, but Taliana and Dylan are such sweet big kids, they chaperoned her each time. Dylan would go in first, Taliana would give Cameron’s rear-end a little nudge to follow and she’d pick up the tail end. They kept her from getting scared of kids who were rowring inside the tunnel and/or blocking the way.

We left soon after this to head over the hill for Jason’s 10th birthday celebration! Cameron was soo tired, but she didn’t nap at all. I should mention that Tom and I celebrated our anniversary the night before with dinner at Gratitude and a showing of Contagion at the local theater. Heather and Assaf watched the kids overnight while we enjoyed our night out! It was awesome. Dylan had no issues at all with the sleep over, Cameron had a little trouble at bbed time but eventually fell asleep with Heather, exhausted.

Everyone woke up fairly early the next day (and Tom and I came over at around 9:30am to pick everyone up for a pre-pumpkin patch brunch) so I don’t think any kids were very well-rested, but they all had a fantastic time nonetheless.

And, finally, here’s a video! Dylan can’t wait until the next time…!

Johnson’s Farm with Dylan

The day after Cameron had her field trip to the pumpkin patch, Dylan had his with his class! I was stoked to be able to join them…and Dylan was pretty happy I could come along. I felt so loved! Here are some pictures from the trip.

Cameron’s trip to the pumpkin patch

Originally uploaded by coffywoman.

Yesterday, Cameron’s pre-school hosted their first annual field trip to Roaring Camp where we got to ride the train to the Bear Mountain pumpkin patch! Dylan would have loved this, but since he’d earlier had a question about why he had to go to school everyday, we thought it best if we didn’t open up the possibility that he could occasionally take time off for special dates like this. He still has no idea that Cameron went on a train ride without him!

In any case, Cameron was pretty excited….

waiting for the train
Originally uploaded by coffywoman.

Another large group that was riding with us got lost and arrived very late. It was very nice of them to wait, but it was difficult for 2 cars full of pre-school kids to wait that long. Everyone had to bust out their snacks and drinks early which meant that, just as the late comers arrived, a gaggle of kids had to go pee! Cameron was super patient, though. We watched the steam blow out of the smokestack, ate some snacks, and chatted with other moms and kids around us.

I didn’t actually get many photos of her on the train OR in the little pumpkin patch because every time I tried to move away to snap a photo, she’d come trotting along after me! After lunch, though, we did a little running and playing around the camp and I got some sweet pictures of our happy gal then.

I love, love, loved hanging out with her! She’s so much fun to talk to and she’s so cuddly, too! After the train trip, I explained to her that I had a doctor’s appointment so she’d have to go to school for a while and she was totally down with the plan. When we got to the school, she was telling me we had to be quiet (the pads were already down for the kids to nap on) and she was whispering all while I changed her diaper, but as soon as I brought her into the napping area, she started to cry!

When I came to pick her up after my appointment, she was as happy as a clam. In fact, it took us nearly half an hour to get out of there! She just kept working on her snack and playing with her buddy Owen! All in all, it was a sweet day. Tomorrow is Dylan’s field trip to the pumpkin patch, so more pictures then….

our li’l circus

A while back, we saw Cirque du Polynesian over at the boardwalk and, afterwards, Dylan was so inspired, he did his own “show” at home! At long last, here’s that video (and a couple of pics on our way out the door)–kinda lengthy, but who knew Dylan would keep going…and going…and going??!?

dylan’s first sick day

Poor Dylan had his first sick day from school last week. We overheard a mommy at the school talking to Dylan’s teacher about how he’d just gotten over a tummy bug. Well, is was just dumb luck that Dylan and I ended up getting the bug! Luckily (kinda), Dylan’s manifestation of the bug was just getting feverish (I got the tummy bug!). He still had a fever on Monday, so I kept him home, but on ibuprofen, he was just as energetic as usual.

After he did some spin art and pottery at home, my productivity came to a grinding halt, so since I wasn’t getting much rest or anything else done, I decided some sunshine and fresh air would be good for us (and, as long as I didn’t eat anything, I was just fine, so a few hours away from home was probably ok!), so we went to the beach….

Dylan was an absolute angel that day. I was feeling pretty weak and icky and, overall, he was so patient and helpful and sweet!

We both loved hanging out together. I had to tell him to not tell his teacher we went to the beach otherwise they might think he wasn’t sick! He really was sick, though. And, I stand by my conviction that fresh air and sunshine does a sick body good…It’s good for the spirits as well!

Oh, you can also see that Dylan finally agreed to get his hair cut! He’d been wanting to grow it out long, but his bangs were getting in his eyes. When we went to get them trimmed, he decided he wanted it all cut after all. We think it looks pretty good!
