more food and then no more food

Cameron started off strong with the solids. She seemed to really like the rice cereal…and she especially likes handling her own little cup even if she can’t get anything out of it yet!

This picture was taken on Day 4 of rice cereal. She looks happy, but later that evening, she puked up a storm. And then the next night, several hours after eating banana for the first time, she puked again! It seemed strange that she’d be allergic to foods as innocuous as rice cereal and banana, so we called the doc. We were told that it was probably a tummy virus, so rather than agitate her poor little digestive system, we opted to give her a break! We will try resuming solids tomorrow….

So, with the solids thing…we’ve also done away with the high chair figuring these cute little portable boosters with trays would work just fine. When Dylan was young, we kept one at home and kept the other one in the car. Not sure if we’ll be able to do that again with Cameron since, as you can see, Dylan wants to be in one too now, despite the fact that his legs are really far too long for the tray to fit comfortably on top (he can’t bend his legs!) and he really began to despise the thing quite a while ago!

We don’t normally feed Cameron on the floor like this, by the way. Dylan wanted to sit right.next.to.Cameron and this was the easiest and most agreeable way to do it!! They both enjoyed dining together…!

Just like Tom, Dylan loves wearing shades. He pretty much harassed me until I took his picture!! He knows he looks good…! 😉

all in a flurry – Cameron is 6 months!

I’m in catch-up mode once again! Undoubtedly this post will be all disjointed and random, starting off with this cute little picture of Dylan with the Lion face painting he came home with last week (2/8/2010, to be exact!). He was obviously so proud of it! It was so cute, we couldn’t just go straight home, so we went shopping for groceries first instead. Dylan was a total maniac with his cart and he was very decisive about what we needed to get; he almost always decides we need bread and tofu and just pursues them independently of me. It helps that they’re within his reach. Beware, other shoppers!

This is what Dylan’s face actually looked like before he got his face-painting. And, see how happy Cameron is to be sitting right next to her big brother?? He’s quite a “role model,” meaning she’s learning how to chatter a mile a minute and scream loudly when she feels we haven’t heard her demands. Overall, though, I think we’re lucky we have two relatively happy campers….

And, of course, Cameron hit her 6-month marker! And, she’s still alive! She’s sitting up like a champ, gabbing on and on, rolling herself to wherever she wants to go, and grabbing at everything we put into our mouths! We started her on rice cereal on Valentines Day — just one tablespoon mixed with some breast milk. She seemed to like it well enough….

So, after we all had red velvet pancakes with maple-sour cream syrup, she enjoyed her cereal. Dylan even helped feed her! As you can see, she enjoyed her spoon the best….

We had a nice Valentines Day celebration with just the four of us. The day before, Lola, Auntie Christina and Uncle Dre watched the kids while Tom and I watched Avatar in 3-D! So, Vday itself was a family day. Tom made a yummy carrot-ginger soup, veggies crepes with a red bell pepper coulis and I quickly prepped some chocolate-coconut-almond fondue (we dipped fruit). Tom and Dylan also made a lot of faces.

I think we all enjoyed the long weekend — Dylan loved all of the Vday treats. He liked the fondue, but who doesn’t like a little chocolate???

To end our weekend, we stayed home trying to recover from various ailments–luckily, the kids are all better; it’s Tom and I that need more recovery time! Heather, Assaf and Taliana came over with a yummy hot and sour soup to speed our recovery, and I made a vegan pancit (Filipino noodle dish) that came out ok.

There’s been a lot that’s been going on lately, but maybe the next post, I’ll really catch up…!

One of the sweetest things we see these days is the kids genuinely just loving playing with each other. Cameron is still so little, but she gets it. When we chase Dylan around the kitchen or vice-versa, she’s just laughing and squealing and kicking her little legs in utter excitement! When we pick him up from preschool, her face just lights up (and, again, she starts kicking excitedly) and she starts trying to talk. Dylan’s first instinct is to always touch her hand to greet her and, once in the car, he reaches out to hold her hand all of the time. She cranes her neck so she can see him and he yammers away and makes her laugh.

A lot of times when we’re at home, Dylan will also just get down on the ground–on his belly, too–and just hang out with her. He’ll try reading her stories and he’ll hand her toys. He even tells us, “I want to play with Cameron.”

As far as we’re concerned, she’s growing way too quickly, but at the same time, we’re eager for them to be able to really play together. We can tell they’ll be good buddies.

I just wanted to include this photo because it has a great shot of Cameron’s gums! I’m not sure if teeth are coming up any time soon–sometimes I feel like they must be coming. She’s chewing on everything and drooling up a storm. Oh, and she’s talking a lot! She talks a lot around her teething objects. I think she’ll be a lot like her big bro–lots of chattering! Can we wait? Hmmm….

I’d just changed this li’l charmer and gotten her dressed in preparation for getting to work. She just loves sitting up — at this point, she can do more full-body push-ups than I can, but she’d much rather sit up and play than lay on her belly! She still tips over if she gets too excited, though; the boppy was the perfect solution.

Mia and Cameron (Jan. 26)

Mia is our nanny’s baby girl who is just 5 days older than Cameron. So far, Cameron has doing fairly well. In no time at all, I was able to leave her with Maria during my entire stint at the office (about 3 hours). She clearly loves having Mia’s company. They reach out to touch one another and attempt to talk to each other, too.

We got this cute get-up at Habitot just a few days earlier when we went to Berkeley…well worth every single penny.

Lola intended to get Dylan an ukelele for his 2nd birthday (I think!), but for some reason, only the case arrived, so that’s all we’ve had up until recently. I scored a fantastic deal on Amazon.com for a soprano ukelele at something like 43% off (and a few weeks ago, the librarian that leads pre-school story time informed us of the “true” pronunciation — she plays ukelele to the songs we sing — Dylan now pronounces the word correctly!).

Since Dylan’s cheap guitar broke a string and it’s so cheap you can’t really replace that string, he was thrilled to see the ukelele! The C chord is super simple–it requires just one finger on the fretboard, so I was able to easily teach it to Dylan. So, here he is practicing it. He’s really quite good…at playing the C chord! 😉

Oh, and, as you can see, he has no splint in this picture! He was freed of it just a couple of days earlier!

State of the Union – January 28

We got an impromptu invite to watch the State of the Union on an actual television (because, of course, we still don’t have cable or satellite t.v.!). Dylan has been playing with Finley a lot at school (where the teachers are also expressing that his “inner boy” is really developing now) and it was going to be at his house, so everyone was happy for the invitation!

Tom rushed home and we made it just in time to get the kids settled in for their own SOTU viewing: Winnie the Pooh. Dylan had a great time (and Cameron happily nursed and napped on my lap) as did we! It was fun to watch and chat with some like-minded neighbors!
