contest winner!
Originally uploaded by coffywoman.

So, sometimes the kids have a hard time zippin’ it up for the night and going to sleep…they talk and talk and giggle and toot. So, in an attempt to fix this, I started running a “fake sleeping contest.” They didn’t actually have to sleep, they just had to pretend to sleep. How it worked was, if you were not talking, you were fake sleeping, so the first one to stop talking was the winner for the night.

As it turned out, Cameron was the big winner! And, the prize was a “date” with mommy (I was so touched that this was the grand prize that everybody wanted!).

The Fake Sleeping Contest ended quite a while ago, but Cameron and I never found time to have our date…until holiday break, that is!

We spent some time shopping for some new long-sleeved shirts for her and then went to Petroglyph to paint. Lunch was part of the plan, too, but she chose to have Tom, Chloe and Dylan meet us at Shun Feng so that they wouldn’t feel left out or bad (everyone likes Shun Thing!).

Fresh air!

The day after Christmas was a cool, crisp and gorgeous day! We finally all rallied and went outdoors to get some fresh air. We needed to do this; everyone had a touch of cabin fever! And, even though we were all tired, getting outdoors never seems to fail to revive everyone!

It seemed like a good day for a run, so Tom kindly watched the kids at the playground while I stole away for a short run. I went up the usual trail and, at the vista point where we can see Chaminade and Sutter, some folks had decorated the tree near the memorial bench.

Every year, we get a new ornament for the kids to add to their growing collections. But, this year, the big kids got a bonus! As performers in the Nutcracker, they both got their own Nutcracker ornament. Looks nice on the tree!

Guess I’ve had drinks on my mind a lot lately! Similarly, Tom picked out a bottle of wine ornament (not pictured at all)!

Dylan also picked out a wooden panda ornament and Cameron chose a colorful stained-glass one.

I didn’t take pictures of all of the ornaments because these ones above were test shots from my new camera (a present from Tom, such a loving and thoughtful hubby!)

Christmas 2015

Originally uploaded by coffywoman.

Christmas Day. The kids had gotten to sleep so late, they woke up only at 9am!!!! I woke up at regular-ish time (7-ish), but I let them sleep. I intended to start making scramble, but I was still also so tired, that I think I just sat there. I’m not sure!

Once the kids were awake, they tore into their gifts. Just a few things from Santa and a few things from us.

As soon as tofu scramble was made and we got all gifts packed up, we headed to Cindy’s house…We were only 3 hours late!

We got there just as they were finishing up passing out presents! Chloe was still kind of overwhelmed by everything, so at first, she just rummaged around in her bag of stuff she brought!

It is always fun to see D. and H’s family always spoils all of us silly. It is also always a good time with good food!

Chloe needed a bathroom break and, as we were returning, she found a couch that she really, really wanted to rest on! She even offered to take off her shoes (poor tired thing!). I don’t remember how I persuaded her to go back into the party!

santa
Originally uploaded by coffywoman.

This year, Cameron was not afraid of Santa! She also got everything on her list (a Nail Design station (definitely not something I would buy her), a dog for her American Girl doll (an obscene waste of money, in my opinion), and a Lego Friends Pop Star bus (the least of the “evils”). She was really pleased.

DSC_5784.jpg
Dylan and Santa
Originally uploaded by coffywoman.

Dylan and Santa are old buddies. He asked for “anything panda” and got it — the Disney baby panda plush (which was hard to find outside of Disneyland), panda slippers, panda stickers, an ABC mystery panda book (which he finished at the dinner table).

Chloe got an American Girl doll with curly hair (almost) just like her. She refused to take a picture with Santa, though. And she didn’t have an interest in opening a box from him either until she was far away from him (the big kids helped her open it)! Once she saw what it was, she was thrilled (and slept with it last night). Now Cameron’s doll and her doll are friends….

Originally uploaded by coffywoman.

So, Chloe asked for an Ariel balloon thingy from Gideon and, of course, he obliged (because he is really amazing!).

Since it is balloon toy versus 3-year old, though, Ballony Ariel sustained some damage. I asked Dylan to take her back to Gideon to have her fixed, but Cameron offered to take her instead (meanwhile, I actually got to remain at the table and continue to eat!)….

The two girls were gone for quite some time, so Tom went to look for them (and, incidentally, had no luck), but while he was away, back they came! With heart-shaped fairy wings and crowns! Apparently, Gideon decided to make some additional balloon goodies for them (in addition to fixing Ariel’s popped fin).

While the girls were away, they were apparently persuaded to do the photobooth, too! The pictures are adorable (but not scanned in yet)!

This year, the kids also did a flip book which basically involved being videotaped in front of a green screen while moving around like crazy for about 7 seconds. All of the action was printed out onto cards which were then “bound” into a little flipbook. Cameron is reviewing her flipbook here.
